Netherlands is the 8th best country to live in the world

The Netherlands is the 8th best country in the world to live, according to the top 100 ranking of the American magazine Newsweek.

In Newsweek’s first-ever Best Countries top 100 ranking, Newsweek chose five categories of national well-being—education, health, quality of life, economic competitiveness, and political environment—and compiled metrics within these categories across 100 nations. A weighted formula yielded an overall list of the world’s top 100 countries.

The Netherlands scored better than the US and Germany. Especially our liberal education system is praised.
Finland topped the poll, followed by Switzerland, Sweden, Australia, Luxemburg, Norway and Canada.

The top ten are many European countries.

The top 10 best countries to live includes:
1. Finland
2. Switzerland
3. Sweden
4. Australia
5. Luxemburg
6. Norway
7. Canada
8. Netherlands
9. Japan
10. Denmark

What about the high taxes and poor weather, plus the high costs of things in the shops compared to other countries, and the crazy property prices? I don’t think the survey took everything into account. If you’re rich then yes it’s great.

Well , You have to be Dutch to understand that we are happy by the way the system works, yes we pay fair amount of taxes to have safety in retirement. Health care for all, education, paid holiday, etc. We have an amazing public transportation. I don’t think the weather is that bad, unless you live in the Caribean. What else can I say : ah !!! the best is that we have freedom, and 100% Human rights, no corrupted Government and above all we have no Republicans like USA does, YEA!!!!!!!

  • Hoi

    the netherlands have shitty weather

Property is not cheap in The Netherlands but compared with London it isn’t too bad, quality of housing is a lot better in Amsterdam and as long as you can still deduct your interest payment of your mortgage it is still affordable.
