Bitterbal benefits from crisis

A great economic crisis is very good for the sale of a typical Dutch snacks. Figures from market research firm Information Resources Inc.. shows that the sale of Bitterballen and croquettes have increased significantly in the last 52 weeks.

Bitterballen are a savoury Dutch meat-based snack, typically containing a mixture of beef (minced or chopped), beef broth, flour and butter for thickening, parsley, salt and pepper.

According to the Volkskrant. Where other companies saw their sales decline, the total market of Bitterballen grew with 14 percent and 4 percent more croquettes were sold.

The reason is not entirely clear. But Van Dobben think people eat snacks for a little consolation at this time.
