Bullied at work

Co-workers are making each other’s lives miserable at the work in the Netherlands. Especially at the parking places around offices and other work areas people have been bullied, or repeatedly mistreated in a health-harming way.

Last year eight per cent of the employees were threatened by an employee and six per cent were molested, according to a national research of CSU Security services. Our country has 7.3 million workers. The hundreds of participants of the research say that there should be cameras and better lightening, to guarantee safety on the work floor.

Three per cent refuse to make overtime to prevent becoming a victim of violence.

The worst case of work violence was the death of a 38-year-old employee working at telecom company Orange in The Hague. He was stabbed in front of the eyes of his shocked colleagues by a colleague with whom he worked for years and also was good friends with.

The parking place and elevator are the most feared locations at work.

It is remarkable that many companies do nothing to improve the security. But if you feel like your company supports this kind of negative behavior, your best option just might be to quit.
