The credit crisis have not missed its effect on the Dutch economy. Consumers have become more careful and spend less. „The economy has slowed down, according to economist Michel Vergeer of the central office for statistics.

The Dutch Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the total value of all produced goods and services, increased in the first trimester with thin 0.2 percents. In the fourth trimester previous year lane the GDP still with 1.2 percent with respect to the third trimester.

The confidence of the Dutch consumer since the start of the credit crisis previous year summer has been effected. Last month the consumer faith reached the lowest point in five years , under the influence of the considerably decreased share prices on the stock market.

The discomfort on the financial markets seems to effect the real economy now. The increase of the Nederlande economy came in the first trimester almost to standstill in comparison with the trimester before. The consumption of durable goods such as clothing, pieces of furniture and auto’ s, lane with 0.5 per cent with respect to a year ago. This was the lowest increase figure in three years. On trimester basis names the spendings finished.

Fortis expects that the increase of the Dutch economy returns. The central plan office (Bureau for Economic policy Analysis) counts this year on an increase of the GDP of approximately 2.25 percent.
