Daan and Emma most popular Dutch baby names again

Daan and Emma are still the most popular new baby names in the Netherlands. In 2012, these names were most frequently given to newborns.

Daan was the most popular boys’ name nationally in 2012 and the most popular name for girls was Emma, according to the annual Top 20 of the Social Insurance Bank (SVB), the authority which pays the children’s allowance. Daan and Emma were also the most popular names last year, just like in 2009. Reported the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) Friday.

Bram was the second most popular boys’ name in the Netherlands, followed by Sem. The second most popular girls’ name nationally is Sophie followed by Julia. The SVB is responsible for the family allowances and therefore well aware of the names of newborns. In the Netherlands last year, approximately 176,000 children were born: nearly 86,000 girls and over 90,000 boys.

Sophie and Sem were the most popular Dutch names in 2010.

Name trends are a matter of fashion, but they mean more than the latest hot color or hemline. They’re heartfelt reflections of parents’ values, hopes and dreams.
