Dutch Taxis to get cameras on roof
Dutch Taxi service in Rotterdam launched a pilot with cameras on the roof of cars that monitors everything happening around the taxi.
Also the pilot taxis get a digital sign when a taxi driver suspects danger and can signal ‘help’ on a display.
Most Dutch taxis have been equipped with a camera inside the car, according to the organization of KNV Taxi.
”But that is no longer satisfactory. Robbers nowadays often deliberately try to lure the driver from the car first before they take their chances.”
The rotating camera on the roof of the taxi needs to prevent that problem.
The RTC and KNV Taxi agreed to do the new pilot after there were signs that the violence against taxi drivers has increased again last year in all major Dutch cities.
