Monarchy backed by 75% in the Netherlands
The monarchy still has overwhelming public support in the Netherlands, a recent survey reveals.
Three quarters of Dutch people support the monarchy, but a growing number find it is time to modernize the monarchy.
These are the results of a survey conducted among 500 Dutch citizens 18 years and older by the Synovate research bureau.
More than 25 percent would prefer a more ceremonial role for the monarchy, compared to 50 percent who are happy to keep things the way they are. Eleven percent of those interviewed want to abolish the monarchy; nine percent had no opinion on the subject.
