Office Gossip is not necessarily negative, on the contrary, it leads to friendships among employees within an organization according to a recent study.
According to Dutch research conducted in a social organization within the healthcare sector by Lea Ellwardt of the University of Groningen, office Gossip can lead to close ties between people in an organization and even to develop friendships.
Ellwart studied gossiping and friendship between employees three times within one year. Employees who gossip over time often become good friends.
Very active gossiping does not lead to more popularity in the friendship network.
On the contrary: when someone is gossiping with many different people, their popularity goes down and is trusted less.
