Sailing girl Laura Dekker does not want to live in the Netherlands anymore

Dutch sailing girl Laura Dekker is not planning to go back to her home country the Netherlands, after her sailing trip around the world.

Laura does not want to live in the Netherlands anymore. She does not feel at home there, dislikes the lifestyle and hates the weather. She would prefer to live in New Zealand. She finds the people nicer there and a perfect country for sailing.

Laura told to NOS news that she would like to do something with sailing in the future. “And for that you be in New Zealand.”

New Zealand is the best country for a sailor, and offers the ultimate sailing experience. “The mentality is also better there,” she says.

“On my journey I’ve learned a lot, met many people and have obviously grown older,” says the 16-year-old.

Laura Dekker is almost finished with her journey and is expected to arrive in Saint Martin at the end of March.

Dutch teen Laura Dekker is trying to break the world record of being the youngest person to sail around the world solo. This record is now held by the Australian Jessica Watson, who was 17 years.
