Tesla Motors announced it will open a new showroom and …

Tesla Motors announced it will open a new showroom and service center in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, The Service Center will be the largest Tesla service center in Europe.

The Benelux has over 100 Roadsters and is one of the largest markets of Tesla. The location in Eindhoven is a strategic move. The new offices will not only serve the Benelux, but will also be a hub for Germany and Denmark. The service center is spacious and has room for five bridges, a full service and repair facility for battery and other specialized EV equipment. The service center is similar to the service centers in California and London.

The Tesla Roadster is the world’s first high-performance electric vehicle. The hand-built carbon fiber supercar accelerates in 0-97km/h in 3.7 seconds with zero emissions. The Roadster plugs into any conventional outlet and can travel 394 km on a single charge. There are now over 1,800 Roadsters on the road worldwide that have collectively driven more than 13 million real world electric miles.

The Roadster proves that electric cars are a viable option for those who love to drive. It is incredibly convenient to own. It requires less routine maintenance than conventional cars, does not need regular oil changes or exhaust system work. Roadsters have no spark plugs, pistons, hoses, belts or clutches to replace. And, with Tesla’s innovative “house call” approach, customers are able to have peace of mind no matter where they are located.

In addition to a service center, Tesla Netherlands includes a Roadster display. Customers are encouraged to visit during business hours to see, sit in and learn more about Tesla Motors.

Are you the next Richard Branson? Do you have a …

Are you the next Richard Branson? Do you have a briljant business idea, got the right skills as teamplayer, entrepreneur designer and just need a little help from an expert? Show it at Startup Weekend Eindhoven, last weekend of the Dutch Design Week. Creative industries of Eindhoven, show us why we are the smartest region!

As you can see the startups can be patents, systems or applications, and more. As part of the Brainport region and located in Eindhoven, centre of creative industries, we expect to get a unchallenged mix of (industrial) designers and technology. Practical & hightech ideas, combinations of excellent design and function.

Where? Startup Weekend Eindhoven takes place on the High Tech Campus Eindhoven.

When? Friday, October 28th – Sunday ochtober 30th, the last weekend of the Dutch Design Week

Tickets? Get your tickets at eindhoven.startupweekend.org. We expect the event to be sold out.

Startups form earlier editions

The succes of this event is best shown with some examples: Foodspotting (SW San Francisco), Launchrock (SW Philladelphia), Zaar.ly (SW Los Angeles), Memolane (SW Kopenhagen). Winners from last Startup Weekend Eindhoven, earlier this year:

Most innovatove idea: ParentSupport, an application which helps parents to find fast and reliable babysitters. This team was led by Liesbeth Vriens who will be a mentor at the next Startup Weekend

The team of Jelle Prins called the Ipad cash register (a low budget, open and fashionable cassier system) got a prize as the startup with the most change to get a million euro’s in trade within one year.

Overal winner: team “Water Trade”. This team got a patent on windmills which provide clean drinking water in poor areas.

Get your early bird tickets

Be quick to join this event! We expect to be sold out. Be even quicker to get your early bird ticket, the discount last only until Wednesday 28th september!

How does Startup Weekend Eindhoven work?

Short version:

Pitching ideas

Voting for the best ideas

Discuss and team up

Work on the ideas

Long version:

On Friday night people from the audience pitch their ideas. There can be as few as 10 pitches or as many as 100, we keep on pitching until everyone is done! We do a simple vote of everyone’s favorite 3 to narrow down the ideas to the top 20%. Individuals then gather around the remaining ideas, discuss feasibility, and identify what they need as far as skill sets and resources to get to work and thus form teams. People are free to work on any idea that interests them that they feel they will have a value-add for.

Once the teams are formed (on Friday night), they get down to work (Saturday and Sunday) and the experience becomes unique to each individual. This all depends on the idea you’re working on and your role within the team but there are typically 5 states:

Team Meetings… planning, decision making and status updates.

Whiteboarding… in groups of 2 or 3 to flesh out an idea or solve a problem

In the zone… working solo to deliver your piece of the puzzle on time

Collaborating with mentors… validating your vision, seeking advice

Cruising… getting amongst the other teams to gather more data, opinions, expertise

In addition to working on your idea, we will at times ask you to take a break and be inspired by insightful and motivating speakers. And of course there’s ample time for eating, drinking, sleeping.

The only certainty of course is that for 54 hours the energy level in the room is going to be super high and you’ll be surrounded by intelligent, talented and innovative people just like yourself.

What better way to spend a weekend?

Dutch Students of the Technical University Eindhoven (TU / e) broke the world record “planking” Simultaneously on Friday.

1256 freshmen students lied face down with their arms by their sides, head to toe at the Philips Stadium for almost half an hour in a “safe plank” position – setting the world record for Most People Planking Simultaneously in One Place.

The old record was held by an Australian school. The record of the students from Eindhoven will be registered with the Guinness Book of World Records, said a spokesman for the TU / e.

The …

Eindhoven is named top Intelligent Community in the world.

The Intelligent Community Forum named its 2011 Top Seven Intelligent Communities of the Year in the Hawaiian capital of Honolulu.

Eindhoven has been selected by an independent jury of academics from a list of 21 contenders. According to the ICF the Community, Eindhoven is the industrial heart of the Netherlands. The region is also praised for creating 55,000 jobs in the technology over the past ten years.

Eindhoven, Netherlands. Eindhoven (a 2009 and 2010 Top Seven community) is a metro area containing the cities of Eindhoven, Helmond and Veldhoven, which has long been the industrial heart of the Netherlands. Recent decades have not been kind to manufacturing in developed nations, but Eindhoven has kept its edge through a model public-private program called “Brainport.” This has turned the region into an open innovation platform. Executing a strategy approved by its member organizations, Brainport works to identify their strengths, weaknesses, needs and gaps, then develops joint projects using ICT to meet social challenges, sharpen citizen skills and business competitiveness, and create business opportunities that keep the income in the region. This consistent effort has added 55,000 jobs to the economy in the past 10 years, lowered unemployment below the Dutch average in most years, nearly quadrupled high-tech start-ups since 2000, and helped the region weather the financial crisis.

The ICF is an international think tank focused on economic and social development.

Of the other six Intelligent Communities in the world, there are three in the United States: Chattanooga, Tennessee, Ohio and Dublin in Riverside, California. Canada has two of the seven Intelligent Communities Stratford and Windsor-Essex. Also Issy-les-Moulineaux in France is one of the most intelligent regions in the world.

From 18 until 20 February entrepreneurial high-tech, web and mobile enthusiasts are invited to share their brilliant ideas. Over the weekend, everything is dedicated to innovative ideas.

Startup Weekend is an intense 54 hour event which focuses on going from a high tech, web or mobile business idea into a prototype, to market strategy or business case over the course of a weekend.

54-hour events where developers, coders, designers, marketers, product managers and startup enthusiasts come together to share ideas, form teams, build products, and create startups!

The Internet company Google is going to expand Google street …

The Internet company Google is going to expand Google street view coverage for the Netherlands significantly.

Dutch Residents of The Hague, Utrecht and Eindhoven will be able to see their home on Google Street View soon.

With Street View users can see street level details on Google maps. The company has photographed almost all streets in and around thirty cities in the Netherlands.

The photos can be viewed by dragging a yellow icon on google map and look around.

In March, Google launched Street View, in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Groningen. Now also Utrecht, Den Haag, Eindhoven, Den Bosch, Tilburg and Leeuwarden will be included. The Randstad is almost fully covered.

Of the 21 Dutch cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants, only Enschede and Maastricht are available at the moment.
