The number of home burglaries in the Netherlands have surged …

The number of home burglaries in the Netherlands have surged 15 percent last year.

There were more than 63,433 reported burglaries in 2008 and over ten thousand more in 2010, writes Dutch newspaper Metro on Friday.

The clearance rate, or percentage of burglaries solved, is slipping, with only six to seven percent solved crimes.

That low rate is because many burglars, who are arrested for dozens of committed burglaries, are only convicted for one or two crimes according to the newspaper.

The cause of the increase in burglaries due to improved security, according to the Council of Police Chief Constables. “About 25 percent of the reported burglaries are for attempted burglary.

The burglar must do more work for his loot, because houses are better protected.

The intruder now sometimes needs three attempts before he can enter a home, “said a spokesman

Frank Dales director of the National Animal protection force is very pleased with the arrival of the animal police. “Monitoring the enforcement of laws on animal care is foremost a public service.

If you’ve watched Animal Cops on Animal Planet, you’re familiar with the work of the animal police.

The primary responsibilities of the officers assigned to the Dutch Police Department Animal Services Unit are to prevent and punish animal cruelty cases, protect the public from rabies and problems associated with stray dogs and cats, and pick up stray and injured animals.

The digital speed cameras in Nijmegen in 2010 that are …

The digital speed cameras in Nijmegen in 2010 that are placed to replace the old analog units, already led to nearly a fivefold increase in the number of fines.

In 2009 just over six thousand people were fined for speeding or red light running, in 2010 there were nearly 29,000 people fined, reports newspaper de Gelderlander.

The figures clearly show that the new speed cameras seem necessary, according to police in Gelderland-Zuid.

Digital speed cameras operate continuously since there is no need to replace old-fashioned film rolls and will automatically be read out remotely. The cameras register a more accurate reading, working with invisible infrared light and are less prone to failure.

The photos do not have to be developed and scanned, they are immediately delivered digitally. This means that offender receives the fine earlier in the mail.

With the analogue model that takes easily six weeks, during the same period, the road users can go wrong multiple times. With digital speed cameras the driver is warned much faster.

The Dutch National Police Services (KLPD) is warning people for …

The Dutch National Police Services (KLPD) is warning people for the first time through Twitter for fake gold sellers, who started to be active again according to the National Police Agency.

The Police Corps recently received the first alert from a victim this year, according to the National Police Agency.

“Every year they try again” said a spokesman for the Police corps. The police posted a message on twitter for the first time with hash tag, #goudverkopers (gold sellers).

The hash label indicates that the message is about a specific topic. “This way we can quickly warn people and indicate on which locations there is trouble.”

Fake gold sellers try to attract drivers in parking lots, gas stations, along the highway or while driving to sell fake gold jewelry, often with a sad story or intimidation.

The Dutch Police have a new mobile application to track people.

Detectives are now spying on people using a mobile phone. The secret tracking method is a ‘stealth SMS.

With the stealth text messages police and detectives are able to track every mobile phone from second to second with the location of the user, according to the Telegraph.

The use of stealth SMS tracking method was first officially described in the still secret “Achilles file” of the search for the twelve Somalis, who last Christmas were arrested as terrorist suspects.

The Dutch police have recovered a stolen iPhone 4 with …

The Dutch police have recovered a stolen iPhone 4 with the app “find my iPhone”. The phone was found in the underwear of the thief …

The iPhone was stolen on December 23 in a cafe in Amsterdam, where the officers met the victim with two friends.

The friends had already logged into their phone and were able to trace the exact location of the stolen iPhone, according to the police.

With the iPhone app they could exactly track the robbers. The officers found two known thieves in the red-light district. In a first search, the iPhone was not found.

One of the pickpockets already was wanted by the police and had to do to the police station. Once he was taken into the police van, the iPhone app once again gave a rapid signal.

That was a good reason for the police to search the prisoner more thoroughly. And obviously, the thief had hidden the iPhone in his underwear.

The 23-year-old man was arrested and has been sentenced to six weeks in jail.

The Dutch Police started a pilot in the Netherlands where videos of robberies and other crimes will be uploaded to YouTube instantly. They are no longer waiting for crime TV shows to show crime videos.

The Dutch Police is currently facing a wave of robberies. For successful results the experiment will soon get implemented nationwide. “I support the use of new media in the detection of crime,” said a Dutch Police Chief. “Obviously it in consultation with the public prosecutor and according to the privacy rules.”

The first videos are now on YouTube, including attacks on a bakery in Tilburg, a pharmacy and a petrol station in Oosterhout.

In addition, the regional force created a map of recent robberies on Google Maps.

The Dutch National Police handed speeding tickets Saturday during the …

The Dutch National Police handed speeding tickets Saturday during the Gumball 3000 race, a large-scale rally event from London to New York.

The Dutch National Police Agency was prepared for the arrival of the rally drivers to Amsterdam, so checked intensively the time period when the drivers crossed from the Belgian border to the Dutch capital Amsterdam. The exact amount of the fines is unknown. It was also not known at the National Police Agency whether this year licenses were seized. Last week a Dutchman lost his Bugatti Veyron and license after speed violation.

The Gumball 3000 was received with an extremely warm welcome from the Dutch crowd. The day kicked off with the weird and wonderful Gumball cars lining up on the entry grid for all to see. A skate session from the one and only Tony Hawk, members of the Gumball skate team entertained the masses. As the day progressed the stars of the Gumball, Eve, Xzibit, and Idris Elba gathered to talk to the crowds.

2PM saw the flag drop and the Gumball cars set off on their way to Amsterdam. Once they arrived the Dutch fans made sure they knew they were in Holland. The Gumballers ended their first day at the legendary Club NL with performances from Jezebel, Johnny De Mol and DJ Fady Ferraye.

This year the race includes actor David Hasselhoff Knight Rider, Kill Bill actor Michael Madsen and rapper Xzibit. The rapper lost his license three years ago when he was in Gumball 3000 driving with more than 160 kilometers per hour on a spot where the maximum speed is 100 kilometers per hour.

The 2010 rally will leave from London on 1st May before taking in Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Boston, Quebec City and Toronto before rounding off in New York seven long days and nights later. In addition to the entry fee of £30,000 have you got what it takes to take on the Spirit of the Gumball? We are also now offering the opportunity to enter either the European or US leg of the rally for £12,000.

A Lamborghini police car with a top speed of 325 km/h is en route from Italy to the eastern Dutch city of Ewijk to be the top attraction at a display of Dutch emergency services.

The car is equipped with the latest gadgetry, such as a medical platform under the hood that contains a cold box for transferring human donor organs and a camera up front to record GPS data.

The car was one of several that has been donated by its builders to Italian police. The 2008 model updated two cars Italian police received in 2004.

Dutch police spokesman Frank de Valk said on Thursday the car will highlight a day-long demonstration on Saturday for the public by police commandos, firefighters and ambulance services.

Some experts say the Lamborghini is the fastest police car in service.

The Dutch police are going for an open source solution. …

The Dutch police are going for an open source solution. Today, Red Hat, the leader in open source solutions, announced that the Dutch Police cooperation “voorziening tot samenwerking Politie Nederland” (vtsPN) has selected Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (RHEL 5) and Red Hat Network (RHN) Satellite Server to manage the rollout of the Linux based systems, to make it easier, faster and more scalable.

The Dutch police has a force of sixty thousand people, divided into 25 regional forces and National Police (KLPD). The Police Cooperation (vtsPN) was established in 2006 for these forces. They support the police and other partners in the Public Safety Sector. One of the important tasks of the vtsPN are the ICT facilities, including a standardized IT architecture.

The choice of the police for 500 RHEL5 subscriptions and 2 RHN Satellite Servers follows a change in policy. The Dutch Police will select only open source solutions. “One trend we see in various government organizations is to reduce costs,” said Sandor Klein, general manager at Red Hat. This strategic policy change follows the political focus on open standards and open source software and the efforts of the NOiV.

“Red Hat Network Satellite Server is a simple management system platform for growing our Linux infrastructure. according to a police spokesperson.

The Dutch Police was criticized in earlier this year, because they asked for thirty thousand Windows-Based Terminals. Minister of Internal Affairs Guusje ter Horst promised that the police would do more for open source and open standards.
