TomTom is SatNav map leader in 2011
The TomTom map continues to be industry leading with 35.8 million kilometers of roads, covering 109 countries and 3.6 billion people worldwide in 2011. Amsterdam-based TomTom is a world leading provider of in-car location and navigation products. It’s HD Traffic product grew the most in 2011, doubling to 1.5 million users.
“Coming from 690,000 at the start of the year, we see continued growth in the use of our traffic information,” TomTom reports in a press release.
TomTom further expanded its traffic services in 2011 with detailed information about the whole road network, including exit roads, slip roads and minor roads, which are not covered by competing technologies. Over 80 million people share anonymous location data with TomTom, enabling the company to provide its customers every other minute with up-to-date traffic information.
Enhancements planned for 2012 include maps for Vietnam, Cyprus, Tunisia, Burundi and Rwanda. Map coverage will be expanded in Mexico, Brazil and Saudi Arabia.
TomTom also announced that the map of India now covers 100 percent of the urban population: 286 million people.
