Young people getting smarter in the Netherlands

Dutch young people are getting smarter in the Netherlands.

The proportion of 18 – to 25-year olds with a college or university education has grown in recent years. This is evident from figures published Monday by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

In the past academic year approximately one third of the 1.4 million young people in the Netherlands between 18 and 25 years participate in higher education. The share rose from 29 to 33 percent.

In particular, young women were more likely to have higher education. There are more women than men in higher education and the difference has increased slightly in recent years. In MBO education it is the opposite.

The number of young people in MBO education, has recently been fairly stable at around 22 percent.

A rise in the number of college degrees in no way mean Dutch people are getting smarter. It’s just that they are quite content to spend years and years getting a free ride. And when they get out, they are just as dumb and useless as when they went it.
